When Fresh Brothers launched our gluten-free line last spring, many of our customers requested that we add a non-dairy cheese to the menu. Most of the customers who were interested in this type of product either had food allergies or were vegan. With that in mind, we began searching for a non-dairy cheese that tastes great and melts well. We think we found a product that does just that - Daiya Cheese.
According to the Daiya website, Daiya Cheese is a "dairy-free vegan cheese that tastes, shreds and melts and stretches like a dairy-based cheese." And, Daiya doesn't contain any common allergens - like soy - and it is cholesterol-free.
The Daiya cheese is pretty tasty. Like most, if not all, non-dairy cheeses, the Daiya looks a little funky; but we think the taste and texture of the product make up for Daiya's appearance on a cooked pizza.
We're really excited to add this product to our menu. We think that Daiya Cheese is a life- changing pizza topping if you are vegan, or suffer from severe food allergies.
